Information The App Uses

Herechat uses Bluetooth to discover and communicate with nearby devices. The app uses device location permission to derive a coarse area identifier, called a geohash, so rooms stay tied to the place you are currently in.

The app also stores basic settings locally on your device, such as onboarding completion, display name, selected color, appearance preference, and diagnostics preference.

Messages And Rooms

Messages, room names, room icons, and room colors are sent over nearby mesh transport to other devices that can receive the local traffic. Herechat does not upload this chat content to a Herechat server.

Recent room history is kept in memory for the current app session. It is intended to be ephemeral and is not permanently stored by Herechat.

Reports, Feedback, And Support

If you email us feedback, support requests, or abuse reports, we receive the information you choose to include in that email, such as your email address, message text, screenshots, device details, or a description of the issue.

Because Herechat is local-first and does not operate a central chat service, reporting abusive behavior may depend on information available on your device at the time you send the report.

Diagnostics

Herechat includes local diagnostics to help test Bluetooth, location, room state, and message routing. Diagnostics are stored locally on your device unless you choose to share them with us for support or testing.

What We Do Not Do

• We do not require an account.
• We do not operate a central chat backend for message storage.
• We do not sell personal data.
• We do not use chat content for advertising.

Third Parties

The website is static and uses local assets. The app may use platform services from Apple and Google for installation, beta testing, crash reporting provided by the stores, and store operations. Those services are governed by their own privacy terms.

Children

Herechat is not intended for children. Do not use Herechat if you are not old enough to consent to using the app in your country or region.

Data Retention

Local app settings remain on your device until you change them, clear app data, or uninstall the app. In-session chat history is temporary. Emails you send to us may be retained as needed to respond, investigate abuse reports, improve the app, or meet legal obligations.

Data Deletion Requests

To request deletion of data you have sent to Herechat by email, contact hello@herechat.app with the subject “Data deletion request”.

We can delete support messages, feedback, abuse reports, and related email metadata that you sent to us, unless we need to retain limited information for legal, security, abuse-prevention, or dispute-resolution reasons.

Herechat does not operate user accounts or a central chat-history backend. Messages and local settings stored on your device can be removed by clearing the app data or uninstalling the app.

Your Choices

• You can deny Bluetooth or location permissions, but nearby chat functionality may not work.
• You can clear local app data or uninstall the app to remove local settings and temporary state from your device.
• You can contact us at hello@herechat.app with privacy questions or requests.

Changes

We may update this policy as Herechat changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page.
